The red top Hongi cichlid is a semi-aggressive cichlid from Lake Malawi, Africa. This popular aquarium fish requires a rock-filled, high-pH environment (7.5-8.5) and can be kept with other robust Mbuna species but should not be housed with overly timid fish. Due to its semi-aggressive nature, especially towards other males of its own species, it is best to maintain a single-male-to-multiple-females ratio in the aquarium to help manage aggression.
